This quote was written by Mr. John Hammond, after doing a live show with Snakeboy.
Snakeboy grew up in New Orleans…steeped in the Deep South Delta Blues tradition. He started playing music as a young teenager. Jazz, Blues, Dixieland, Gospel…all part of the menu…stirred into a spicy gumbo that is The Original Snakeboy today! Inspired by Duane Allman, Snakeboy took up slide guitar. In 1981he took a drive “for the weekend” to Austin Texas.
There he was befriended by a guitarist who was little known to the world at that time, Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughan. Snakeboy knew he’d found a home.
His stinging slide guitar style landed him a spot with “The Austin All- Stars Band” his first week in town. They played to maximum capacity crowds twice a week for years at the Steamboat on 6th Street. Snakeboy became a founding member of such award winning Texas bands as… “Coupe de Ville”… “The Nomads”… and “The Asylum Street Spankers”. Setting all time attendance and sales records at historic Austin nightclubs like The Outhouse, and The Black Cat Lounge.
Snakeboy performed with “The Guy Forsyth Band” for over five years. He and Guy also played together as a duet. After playing every Sunday night for more than four years in a row, The Guy Forsyth Band set an all time record for consecutive performances at Austins’ world famous Antones’ Blues Club. Snakeboy has had the privilege of headlining major musical events and appearing with such stars as Double Trouble, Kim Wilson, Al Kooper, The Neville Brothers, Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Rogers, Earl King, Snooky Pryor, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, W.C. Clark, Hubert Sumlin, Corey Harris, Bob Brozman, Steve James, Catfish Keith, many more.
Snakeboy was the First Place Winner at the National Slide Guitar Fest held in Gray,Tennessee in September of 2000. His gritty, heartfelt vocals and searing slide guitar style have made him a favorite at clubs and festivals. Snakeboy has recently had the honor of being selected as a featured artist in the new National Reso-Phonic Guitar Catalog.
National has also picked one of his original songs to be included on their latest CD release. “Playing With Fire”… Snakeboys’ latest solo release on Resonator Records,is a great example of his live shows. Recorded virtually “live” in the studio, it features songs by some of the Delta Masters such as Muddy Waters, Son House, and Robert Johnson, as well as a blend of unique originals.
Leaving No Doubt…
this IS The Original Snakeboy !!!
